Somerset Open Studios

Our group climbed aboard the minibus for a special Somerset Art Weeks visit in September. A warm welcome awaited us at The Old Brick Workshop, a creative space run by Alison Cosserat with a community of co-working artists, artist studios and exhibition spaces. The Old Brick Workshop was once part of the historic Poole Brickworks and is on the outskirts of Wellington.

With paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, mixed media and ceramics, we were able to explore different artforms, materials and processes, and everyone could find something that interested them to talk about.

After tea, coffee and delicious chocolate cake, we got back on the minibus to National Trust Coleridge Cottage for a lino print workshop with lead artist Luan MacDonald – continuing with our bird theme.

It was a really lovely day, and we were so happy to receive this feedback, thank you!

Our final session for this project is in October 2025 where we will celebrate all the wonderful people who have taken part and their creative contributions over the last 6 months.

The Quantock Hills National Landscape and Somerset Art Works have developed this project to offer a series of creative workshops, led by artist Luan MacDonald, for AfriQuan groups and communities – African families living around the Quantock Hills in Somerset.
