Family Day

We hosted a Quantock Nature Calling Family Day at National Trust Coleridge Cottage in August, inviting people of all ages to come together and celebrate Somerset and African culture through creative activity – all led by Somerset Art Works artist, Luan MacDonald.

Kicking off the session, Luan took the group through instructions on how to make bird badges inspired by some of the migratory birds we’ve explored in previous sessions. Using layers of coloured paper, oil pastels and badge pins, everyone let their imagination run wild, transforming simple shapes into beautiful bird badges.

“Thank you, I had a lot of fun… I would like to volunteer if there is a chance”

Luan also demonstrated how to produce block-style prints with cut-out paper shapes. Working in layers, we inked up our shapes and pressed them onto a blank paper canvas, starting with the body, wings, beak and feet, building unique and colourful bird designs.

Take a look at some of our creations!

“I need to say thank you so much. I enjoyed it very much”
