The Quantock Hills National Landscape and Somerset Art Works developed this project to offer a series of creative workshops, led by artist Luan MacDonald, for AfriQuan groups and communities – African families living around the Quantock Hills in Somerset. The sessions were open to anyone interested in coming along.
Taking place on the Quantock Hills and at National Trust Coleridge Cottage from May to October 2025, we offered opportunities to experience nature and explore collective cultural and historical perspectives – celebrating Somerset and African culture. Investigating the myths and legends of migratory birds, such as Nightjars, Pied Flycatchers and Swallows and their significance in the Quantocks ecosystem.
The Quantock Nature Calling artwork took a tour around Somerset in 2026 with exhibitions in libraries, churches, historic buildings, town halls and an arts centre.
